Back by popular demand, this course comes in a number of formats and at NDS we run it as a 2 day workshop. It's a mixture of theory and practise and is based on the following learning outcomes:
To:
- define supervision in the human services context
- present a clear practice model for supervision
- provide opportunity to practise the model
- consider supervision in the context of performance management
- practise giving and receiving feedback on work performance
- identify skills areas for development as a supervisor or supervisee

Where's The Line - Exploring Professional and Personal Boundaries

Aim
This course is designed for workers in the Human Services Industry to help them define, establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries in the workplace. It is based on the following learning outcomes:
- Have an understanding of role theory
- Have an understanding of role conflict and role confusion
- Understand how role theory, conflict and confusion create problems with boundary setting
- Define personal and professional boundaries and state how they impact on your role
- Explore and analyse case examples
- Develop and practise strategies to avoid ‘crossing the line’
- Have an action plan for future situations

Stand and Deliver - Presentation Skills that Impress

Venue: NDS Training Room Unit 1, 59 Walters Drive, OSBORNE PARK WA 6017
Aim
This course is designed for workers to help them make presentations to staff team, public forums and major conferences. It draws on my personal experiences of more than 30 years as a presenter and will not only offer some top tips and goldenrules but will also identify the slippery slopes and hidden traps. It is based on the following learning outcomes:
- know the main principles consistent with ‘good practice' in presenting
- appreciate the importance of planning, rehearsal and timing
- recognise the importance of empathy, and the value of nerves;
- have practiced voice and microphone technique
- understand the significance of dialect and accent
- recognise effective non-verbal communication
- have discussed the pros and cons of humour
- have practiced using visual aids and know the associated pit falls
- understand the importance of room layout and stage management
- understand the ‘contractual’ relationship between audience and presenter
- have improved their presentation performance, have had some fun and enjoyed the course!

Introduction to Management
Dates: 13th, 14th, 27th May & 10th June 2013
Venue: NDS Training Room Unit 1, 59 Walters Drive, OSBORNE PARK WA 6017
Aim
To further cultivate an effective and durable managerial culture in NDS Member organisations.
The programme will include topics selected from:
- An overview of management and new managerialism
- Role theory, role confusion, and role conflict in management
- Leadership
- Performance appraisal
- Conflict resolution
- Supervision
- Planning and organising work
- Delegating
- Developing and making use of teams
- Motivation
- Managing change
- Goal setting and action plans
- Identification of training needs
- Time Management
Each session will end with participants deciding an explicit statement of action to be undertaken before the next session. This action will be based on that days learning and be relevant to their particular job.
To support participants with their statement of actions we will establish an internal coaching system.
A handbook and a practice workbook will support the course.
